Cupping
Massage
Minutes
Cupping therapy involves suctioning the skin, with glass, plastic or silicone cups.
Each treatment focus on a specific area for the session, ranging from the back, neck and shoulders, but can also be thighs, knee area and lower leg.
The area is prepared with massage and once warmed up the cups are applied to the problematic areas.
This is done by various methods, such as flash cupping ( cups are placed directly on area then removed within a minute) other methods include, dragging the suctioned cup over affected area and/or leaving cups on effected area.
The cups stimulate the muscle, by promoting blood flow making the area more manageable for the therapist with less pain than a sports massage.
After treatment, you may be left with small red or bruised circles that usually disperse after a few days. Your therapist will at the end of treatment discuss with you the colour grades of these marks.
Currently in clinic suction cups are available due to fire regulations, but fire cupping is available on request for home visits.
Cupping can be combined with rehabilitation programs in a post-training recovery plan.
