Emma Reston

Having always been interested in sports, when I completed my A-levels I decided to study Sports Therapy at Edge Hill University. Graduating in July 2017 to become a member of the Society of Sports Therapists.

During the course, there were opportunities to apply my skills and knowledge in placements at Liverpool University, with Evolution Fitness Professionals and within Edge Hill’s Sports Therapy Treatment Clinic. Once I had completed my degree I was delighted to be invited to join the team at Evolution Fitness Professionals and further develop my role as a Sports Therapist assessing, treating and planning rehabilitation.

My personal interests include participating in sports such as netball and swimming. I have also been involved in Scouts for many years and I am currently a Cub Leader at my local Cub Pack. While at Scouts I enjoy activities such as Archery, Air Rifle Shooting and Hiking.

Inspired by developing various sports injuries during my marathon training, I decided that research and education into different techniques to heal my own injuries could later become a good pursuit and career path for my future. It seemed a natural choice to train as a holistic therapist to use my knowledge and experiences to benefit others. Given the wide spectrum of treatments on the market I followed what I was mostly intrigued by beginning to add one by one various techniques and qualifications to my repertoire all of which work harmoniously together.

I began by completing courses in Hopi ear candling, Indian head massage and reflexology. Progressing to a more intense course of full body massage, aromatherapy massage, deep tissue massage, hot stones and dry cupping therapy. While alongside studying reiki to a master’s level, animal reiki, meditation, hypnosis, crystal healing and life coaching.

I developed an interest in facial rejuvenation which has now become a specialty and passion of mine. One of the many procedures include facial acupuncture, from that I further studied the medical facial using techniques such as facial cupping & an internal mouth massage.

I was fascinated by an auricular therapy course which has great benefits including helping dealing with addiction, relieving anxiety and stress. I then went on to volunteer for an active recovery centre aiding them in their recovery from injuries & addictions. This is a topic I would most definitely like to continue in the future.

In my personal time I enjoy running with my preferred distance being half marathons, I also spend time further building on my current qualifications and researching into any new and upcoming holistic therapy skills I can develop for future us.

Joseph Greenaway

I graduated from edge hill university in 2024, with a passion for clinical work and a commitment to help athletes and individuals recover from injuries. During my time at edge hill the practical experience gained in the clinic deepened my appreciation for the positive impact rehabilitation can have on patient outcomes.
I take part in voluntary work at marathon events where I provided post race massages and witnessed the role recovery techniques play in athletes performance and well being.
I also volunteer for a local football team offering pitch side first aid and managing the players recovery, from pre match massages to helping treat injured athletes by prescribing tailored exercises and developing rehabilitation programs to aid their return to sport.
Alongside the clinic I work as an academy sports therapist for Bolton wanderers working with U9 to U16 teams. This role involves injury assessment, creating and prescribing individualised rehabilitation programs and supervising match days as a pitch side first aider.
In my free time I like to stay active by training in Brazilian jiu jitsu and learning new martial arts. As I progress my career I am passionate about continuous learning and dedicating my time to advance my qualifications and knowledge in rehabilitation to provide the best possible care.

Lesley Mourtada

I have had a keen interest since I was a young child, playing football, cricket, netball, rounders and swimming for the school team at junior school. In those days playing football and cricket as a girl was really difficult, but I gave the lads a run for their money and showed them I could play as well as them and being scouted to play for my county team.

In later years I got into martial arts and was awarded the black sash in Lau Gar Kung Fu and kickboxing. I competed in semi and full contact combat. I was the area female champion and nobody from the local clubs would fight me because they knew I would win. That is not meant to sound big headed in any way, because I have always welcome healthy competition and was beaten many times, before getting fitter, stronger and faster in my technique.

I joined the Army Reserves and served in an Infantry Battalion and had an accident when I got run over whilst riding my bicycle in the Lake District. I still went to Sandhurst with a dislocated AC Joint. This is what led me to start being treated by a McTimoney Chiropractor some years later.

I have qualifications in a number of outdoor pursuits including PADI Instructor, Level 3 Whitewater Kayaking, Raft Guiding, Mountain Walking and other activities which I participated in to a high level. I had many injuries doing these sports and had weekly McTimoney Chiropractic treatments to be fixed in readiness for the following weekend. Hence, my interest in the method developed and grew knowing it is all about balancing the body and if one part is not working optimally then other parts of the body will be compensating.

The idea of training to be a chiropractor was first put to me in 2005, but I lacked the confidence to complete the training until the calling became so strong, I could no longer ignore it and decided to complete an Access type course with the College of Health and this led me onto the 5 years Masters course and successfully qualifying as a Chiropractor.

I have also trained as medical piercer to vagus nerve stimulation. When the daith is pierced it sends a constant impulse to the vagus nerve because it passes through the auricular canal. The vagus nerve is part of the parasympathetic nervous system and is responsible for the fight, flight, freeze processes we experience in different situaitons. I had both my daiths pierced because I suffered with migraines for nearly 30 years. This procedure was positively life changing for me.
